Akindred Healing uplifts the work of artists and deeply values the essential role art plays in collective movements toward liberation and protecting humanity.
Art is a humble champion and a fierce warrior- simultaneously reflecting the “gestalt” of the times and also what is timeless.
These images feature art prints in the Akindred Healing space and
creative offerings to share.
“The role of the artist is exactly the same as the role of the lover. If I love you, I have to make you conscious of the things you don’t see”

Ibeji
by LISA FREEMAN
Artist Statement: This is "Ibeji (the Twins).” The Yorùbá people that live, in now what is known as modern Nigeria, have the highest rate of multiple births on earth. The "Ibeji” are considered to be the sacred twins of the Yorùbá pantheon. They represent joy, vitality, prosperity, good health and the protectors of children.
The original is a mixed media piece heavily textured with acrylic paint and collages, metal produced on a board.

Oya
by LISA FREEMAN
Artist Statement: Oya is the powerful Yorùbá Orisha of the winds and tempests. She can manifest as winds ranging from the gentlest breeze to the raging hurricane or cyclone. She goes forth with Her husband during His thunderstorms, destroying buildings, ripping up trees, and blowing things down. Oya is known as a fierce warrior and strong protectress of women, who call on Her to settle disputes in their favor. I believe that this is where the Marvel superhero "Storm" originates from.
original art piece: Mixed media. Metal and texture on board. 24"x48". -
Basquiat
by LISA FREEMAN
Artist Statement: Jean Michel Basquiat, was a black American artist, a New Yorker from Haitian and Puerto Rican descent and he is one of my favorite painters. He was a street artist when hip hop was in it's young years. Blending poetry with social commentary and then drawing over bold and audacious paint colors. His politics were fierce; a condemning of racism and its social constraints. I have been fascinated by his work since I first discovered it. His paintings are some of my greatest inspirations.
original art piece: Mixed media. Metal and texture on board. 36 1/2"x24"

Oshun
Artist: LISA FREEMAN
Artist Statement: It’s no coincidence Oshun is also referred to as “the queen of the witches”: She is a teacher of both magic and mysticism. Oshun loves casting spells, especially those related to romance and seduction. She is the granter of wishes and all of your heart’s desires. When respected and properly invoked, Oshun holds the keys to love, success, prosperity, and pregnancy. That said, if you’re trying to invoke this goddess, make sure you always keep her happy. In other words, do not make Oshun a promise you cannot keep. Love her; be loyal to her and be mindful of your wishes. She is the goddess of love, after all.
